Don't Let Arthritis Keep You Down
According to the Arthritis Foundation about one in six people or 15% of Americans suffer from some kind of arthritis. Arthritis is a general term used to describe more that 100 chronic diseases of the joints, bones and muscles, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, lupus and even osteoporosis. While there is no cure for most types of arthritis, the condition can be successfully managed through medication, exercise and positive mental outlook.
- Exercise daily. Incorporating daily exercises in to your routine can help to reduce joint pain and stiffness while increasing flexibility, muscle strength and endurance. Types of exercises that could be included in your daily routine include range of motion, strengthening and endurance exercises, swimming/water aerobics and walking/biking.
- Avoid over exertion while exercising, allowing the body to rest in between workouts. The body needs time to restore and repair joints, thus reducing inflammation.
- Maintain a positive attitude and do not let arthritis control your life. Take control of the disease and continue to lead as proactive of a lifestyle as possible.
Remember to consult your health care professional prior to establishing any changes in your exercise
routine or diet.
