Bellefontaine, Ohio - Dr. Josip Terebuh, M.D., an ophthalmologist with a practice in Bellefontaine, Ohio, spent several weeks in a place he never wanted to go -– a skilled nursing facility. Dr. Terebuh was transferred to Heartland of Bellefontaine after major open heart surgery, where he was scheduled to go through a post-surgery cardiac rehabilitation program. Before starting his program, Dr. Terebuh had a number of reservations about his recovery process. “Before landing in Heartland of Bellefontaine, I was not excited with the idea of a nursing home even though I was to go there for rehabilitation."

Upon arrival, he quickly discovered that his judgment was premature and his concerns were unwarranted. During his stay, he received excellent patient care and recovered quickly. He raved about the entire staff -– nurses, nursing aides, dining room personnel, and the physical and occupational therapists –- saying, “They are very efficient, patient, encouraging, mood uplifting and entertaining.”

On top of the high level of quality care he experienced throughout his stay, Dr. Terebuh cited a number of positives about Heartland of Bellefontaine including food quality and the welcoming attitudes of the Heartland staff. He found the latter to be true across the board, as he talked with other patients and visiting families around the facility, learning that his high regard for Heartland of Bellefontaine was matched by many others as well.

After completing his cardiac rehabilitation program, Dr. Terebuh was able to return to his home and go back to work. When asked about his reservations prior to starting the recovery process, he said, “I was so wrong. I found Heartland to be a desirable place for whatever purpose I may need -– to live there the last days of my life; to recover from accidents, illness or surgery; or to do rehabilitation like in my case.”
