ManorCare Health Services -- Gig Harbor "Sports Fan's Dream"

As an athletic and very active man, Frederick has always been a sports fanatic.  When he was in high school, he played football and basketball and ran on the track team.  Since then, he has stayed active by joining the military and serving for eight years and then working as a day-shift foreman for 15 years.  He served in this capacity until five years ago when he started showing signs of weakness and discovered that he had developed cancer.  Unfortunately, this 47-year-old sports fan had to put his active lifestyle on hold.  He was admitted to ManorCare Health Services in Gig Harbor, Washington and has continued his fight against cancer.

One thing he has never lost passion for throughout everything is his love for sports.  When the ManorCare staff realized this, they were determined to give Frederick his Heart's Desire and a gift he would never forget.  They were able to contact Matt Hasselbeck, quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks and Frederick's favorite player.  They explained Frederick's situation to him, and he was more than happy to help them out.  He sent tickets to a Seahawks game as well as a jersey and an autographed picture.

During the week leading up to Christmas, Frederick was asked to come in front of the Christmas tree at the Gig Harbor center and receive his gift.  When he saw the tickets and the other merchandise under the tree, he was very excited.  He went to the game with his niece and had a great time.  He said of the whole experience, "It was a definite surprise, and a total dream come true for me."
