Every day, our centers and hospice and home care agencies receive thanks for the care they have provided. Many say they don't have the words to describe their appreciation and simply say "Thanks." Below is a letter from the daughter of a patient served by Heartland Health Care Center in Kendall, Florida and Heartland Hospice in Homestead, Florida in appreciation of the care provided to her mother.
Our mother, Henny, came to Heartland Health Care Center – Kendall in September 2011 after suffering a massive heart attack. Defying all odds, she recovered, and while she couldn't walk and was confined to a bed, Mom was able to maintain a good spirit. This was in part a tribute to the staff at Heartland. When Mom passed away, although we were there with her, she, as well as we, was also comforted by many of your staff. This meant so much to us, and we know Mom felt their care and love.
Over the last year there have been so many staff members who have cared for our mother. We cannot remember all those who have been a part of our mom's life in the past year to personally thank. I would like to commend a number of staff members who I felt worked above and beyond to ensure my Mom maintained her dignity. I have no words to describe the special care and love that Becky, Dionesi, Olga, Maggi, Evelyn, Roland, Enrique, Lamerci, Esteban, Ricardo, together with the Heartland Hospice Team, Roberto, Fernando, Marc, the loving Hospice's nurses, Diana, Pauline, Esmeralda, Chaplain Claudio gave us in the last hours of my mother's life. The rest of the staff were all very important to our mom's care until the end.
This was a terrible time for me, watching my mother deteriorate, and having to take care of the preparation of her passing. However, this transition was handled extremely well. Under the direction of Marvely, working together with Heartland Hospice, Mom and I were surrounded by the most caring, supportive, loving people one would ever hope to meet. The respect Marvely and her team showed my Mom gives me faith in humanity. I know she had enormous amounts of work to do; however, without fail she would take the time out of each day to visit and tell me how Mom was doing or answer all my inquiries – honestly and with respect, especially in her last week here. Marvely's team follows that direction – she is a real leader. They granted us all the privacy my family and I needed and checked on us at just the right moments to make sure we had everything we wanted during her last days and hours.
We miss her very much and still cannot believe she is truly gone from us. We want to let you know how grateful we are to everyone at Heartland Kendall and Heartland Hospice Homestead. You should be very proud of your wonderful teams!!!
